Adding instructions to the introduction of exams to help address technical problems that your students might encounter.

Different internet based systems  are currently experiencing a higher than usual amount of usage.As a result, some of you may have experienced technical problems , such as browser crashes, internet latency and sudden updates to your computers. Brightspace is no exception. That's why D2L has significantly increased the power of our servers and continuously monitors traffic. However, internet connections can sometime go down for a few seconds (or even several minutes). If this happens, your students need to have clear instructions on how to proceed. We have prepared the following guide to help you provide your students with the steps to take in the event of such a situation.

We have written a text that you can use in your courses to provide support information for students facing technical issues during an exam.

Here are ways to add this message to your online exams:

Option 1 - Copy message and paste message "as is"
(text formatting may be necessary) 

 

1. Locate the quiz link in the content of your course.

2. Click on the arrow icon beside the quiz title and select "Edit Properties In-place"

3. Click on the "Add a description" area to open the HTML editor.

4. Paste the following message in the HTML editor window.  Once pasted, click on the blue "Update" button.

Note, you may have to format the message using this option.

Technical Issues

If you are disconnected from your quiz or exam, try to reconnect immediately. Then, to keep track of the problem for your professors and technicians, please fill out the Brightspace support form as soon as possible with the following details:

  • The approximate time of your disconnection
  • The browser you are using
  • The type of computer (PC, Mac, Linux)
  • The name of your Internet provider
